Ever feel like your bank account is haunted? You get paid, and then—poof!—money mysteriously vanishes? Guess what? Subscriptions are one of the biggest culprits. They sneak in like a harmless little trial, and before you know it, they’ve settled into your finances like an uninvited guest who never leaves.
Step 1: Identify the Sneaky Culprits
First things first—how many subscriptions do you actually have?
Take a few minutes right now. Yes, NOW. List them all.
👉 Check your bank statements, PayPal, App Store, Play Store, and email receipts.
👉 Write them down (or use my easy tracking template) including costs.
👉 Add comments to them (who uses it, why do you have it).
Spoiler Alert: You’re probably paying for things you haven’t used in months.
Step 2: The Brutal Truth - Do You Really Need Them?
Now, for the hard part: analyse your list. Ask yourself, if you need to talk to someone - leverage me as someone as a second eye. I’m happy to help! If you are doing it yourself, as the below!
✅ Do I actually use this?
✅ Does this add value to my life?
✅ Am I getting my money’s worth?
✅ Could I get the same thing for cheaper?
If the answer to any of these is "NO"—CANCEL IT. Right now. Not later. NOW.
🚨 Be ruthless. Cut the dead weight. Take control of your hard earned money. The feeling of getting your finances under control is definitely much better than any overpriced app feature!
Please be merciless in cutting costs on the things that you don’t use or don’t want. On a longer run these small changes would potentially save you weeks, if not months of time that you could reduce your working time and or spend on things that you value most.
Step 3: The Silent Bloodsuckers - Watch Out for the "Free Trial Trap"
Ever downloaded an app, and within seconds, it’s begging you for a subscription before you’ve even tried it?
These sneaky services lure you in with "free trials"- but the moment you enter your payment details, they start siphoning money every month because most people forget to cancel. I’ve been there done that - not anymore and I want you to be also taking control of your money. So,
DO THIS INSTEAD:
📌 Set a reminder on your phone for a few days before the trial ends.
📌 Use virtual cards or prepaid cards for trials (so they can’t auto-charge you).
📌 If you're not 100% sure you’ll use it - better yet, DON’T subscribe!
Most importantly get comfortable in saying NO!
Step 4: Optimising - Can You Get the Same for Cheaper?
Did you know that Netflix costs $8/month in Australia but only ₹199 ($3.69) in India? That’s a 50%+ saving for the exact same content.
Corporate giants have ZERO loyalty to you—they charge different prices in different regions. Why not optimise your spending to get the best value?
And before you say "ethics" - let me remind you:
🎯 YouTube makes money off ads from advertising companies AND also individuals like us at the same time in not having to show the ads. I mean SERIOUSLY!
🎯 Streaming services charge you more just because of your location.
💡 Why shouldn’t YOU make smart money moves too? Loyalty should be to your hard-earned cash, not billion-dollar companies.
Step 5: Take Back Control - The Ultimate Subscription Detox
✅ Cancel what you don’t use.
✅ Find cheaper alternatives for what you do need.
✅ Monitor regularly to avoid subscription creep.
💥 Final Rule: Pay for what you use, and use what you pay for. If not - be ruthless and CANCEL! Uncle Sam and more importantly your future self will thank you for it! :)
The aim of the game is to get value out of the money we spend and if possible keep stash of our hard earned MOOLAH with ourselves!
Your Challenge: Take 10 Minutes Today
👉 Go through your subscriptions and cancel at least one that you don’t need.
👉 Tell me in the comments—how much did you save?
👉 Share this with a friend who needs to hear this!
🚀 Take control of your money. Don’t let subscriptions control you. 🚀

Nice one
